Where to stay in Goa for under ₹2,500 a night that doesn't feel like it

Goa has a budget tier of stay that nobody talks about because it doesn't generate paid bookings on the big aggregators. These are the places where the owner picks up the phone, the breakfast is whatever the family is eating, and the room has a fan that works but no AC. Below ₹2,500 a night, in October–November (shoulder season; rates double in late December).

North Goa — under ₹2,500

Casa Belaventura · Assagao (₹1,800–2,200). Six rooms in a Portuguese house off the Anjuna-Vagator road. Host is a third-generation Goan, his wife runs the kitchen. Fish curry rice for ₹250 if you ask. The pool is small, the room is bigger than it looks. Book direct via WhatsApp +91 9665XXXXXX (we'll share if you write to us).

Riva Beach Resort · Morjim (₹2,200–2,400 in shoulder). Big rooms, basic but clean, two minutes' walk to the actual beach. Their breakfast is the standout — sannas + chouris on Sundays.

Bohemia Hostel · Anjuna (₹1,400 private room, ₹650 dorm). The dorm is solo-traveller-good. The private double with attached bath at ₹1,400 is a steal in October. Wifi works.

South Goa — under ₹2,500

The Yellow House · Patnem (₹2,000). One of the original Patnem family-run guesthouses. Ten rooms, garden, two minutes from the beach. Ramnath's mother runs the kitchen — the Goan-style sausage breakfast is the reason to come back.

Casa Susegado · Cola Beach (₹2,400). Cola is the wild beach south Goa hides. This is one of three places to stay there. Don't expect anything fancy — it's a hut with a real bed and a private bathroom. Showers run on solar so morning showers are cold; afternoon showers are hot.

Beira Mar · Benaulim (₹1,900). Near St. John the Baptist Church, ten minutes' walk to the beach. Old Goan family-owned, three generations now. The hosts will arrange a fishing trip with a local for ₹1,500 — six hours, breakfast, and your own catch grilled at the shack on return.

The "I want a beach shack but with a real room" pick

Curlies · Anjuna has rooms above the famous shack itself (₹2,300). Loud at night (the beats run till 3 AM most weekends in season). Book any other night of the week — and you get the beach all to yourself in the morning, plus a 30-second walk to your bed.

What you don't get for under ₹2,500

Pools (mostly). AC in older properties. Beach access in three minutes (you'll walk five to ten). Room service. Breakfast buffets. Twin-bed configurations. If those matter, Goa has them at ₹4,500+ — but that's a different list, for a different time.

The real way to do budget Goa is to find one place you like and go back to it. The hosts remember you, the rate gets quietly better, and you stop wasting time researching every trip.
